When I first created my LinkedIn account, I thought it was just an online CV. I filled in my name, added a degree, and left it to gather dust.
It wasn’t until I started my journey as a Website Designer, SEO Specialist, and Content Writer that I realized LinkedIn is more than a resume — it’s your digital storefront.
If someone Googles your name, your LinkedIn profile will almost always appear at the top of the results. That means it’s the first impression people get of you. The question is: Is your profile telling the right story?
Let’s walk through how I optimized mine, and how you can do the same — even if you’re just starting out.
Most people just put their job title in their headline: “Web Designer” or “SEO Specialist.”
That’s fine, but it’s not memorable.
I chose:
Website Designer | SEO Specialist | Content Writing | Keyword Research & Optimization
Why? Because:
It tells people exactly what I do.
It includes keywords recruiters search for.
It shows I have multiple skills that work together.
Tip for you: Don’t just write “Digital Marketer.” Instead, think of 3–5 key skills or roles you excel at and separate them with vertical bars “|”.

Your “About” section isn’t for stuffing in corporate jargon — it’s for telling your story.
Mine reflects my journey: starting as a student at Federal University of Technology, Owerri, learning digital skills through platforms like HubSpot Academy, and then founding J7Hub, where I help brands build their online presence.
I make it clear who I help and how I help them. That’s what attracts clients and recruiters.
Formula for your About section:
Opening hook: Why you do what you do.
Brief journey: Your background and experience.
Value statement: What problems you solve for people.
Call to action: “Let’s connect” or “Message me if you want to discuss…”
Instead of listing job duties, I write achievements.
For example, under Founder & Content Strategist – J7Hub, I include:
Designed and launched 15+ client websites.
Improved client SEO rankings by an average of 60% within 3 months.
Managed keyword research that led to a 300% traffic boost for a client in the e-commerce space.
Numbers make your experience real. They show results, not just responsibilities.

Projects turn your profile from “claims” into “evidence.”
I added J7Hub as a featured project so people can click and see my work. Even if you don’t have big corporate projects, you can add:
A personal blog you built.
A portfolio of designs.
Case studies of SEO results.
I proudly display my SEO Certified badge from HubSpot Academy and my Soft Skills certificate from Jobberman Nigeria.
Why? Because LinkedIn badges catch the eye and tell potential clients: This person invests in learning.
Tip: You don’t have to spend thousands — platforms like Coursera, Google Digital Garage, and HubSpot offer free certifications.
Under Volunteering, I include my work with Jobberman Nigeria — from data collection to training others in digital skills.
It shows that I’m willing to share knowledge and give back, not just work for a paycheck. Recruiters love to see community involvement.

LinkedIn’s algorithm works a lot like Google’s. The more keywords (skills) you have, the more likely you’ll appear in searches.
I added skills like E-Commerce, SEMRush, Digital Marketing, and Analytical Skills. I also ask colleagues and clients to endorse me — because social proof matters.
An optimized profile isn’t enough — you need to be seen.
I post tips about SEO, share case studies from my work at J7Hub, and comment on other people’s posts. That’s how you stay top of mind.
LinkedIn isn’t just a job-hunting site — it’s a personal branding platform.
By optimizing your headline, writing a human “About” section, showing proof through projects and results, and staying active, you turn your profile into an opportunity magnet.
